Hey faithful blog readers!

Well, I've done it-- made the change to a wordpress blog. And unfortunately, sandy-feat cannot transfer. I'm going to be paying a lot less attention to this blog, and more attention to my new blog at zomgzz.com.

I'm leaving for Costa Rica in just over a week, and would love for you to read my bloggings about the adventures in central america. Bookmark it, rss it, have your grandchildren print it out so you can read it like you would a newspaper, do whatever. I love letting y'all know about my life!

This Christmas was just awesome.

Before the sun came up, Carey was slaving away making the most delicious and most consistent Christmas tradition, a huge cinnamon roll. Thankkkksss!

Rare pic of me, Justin, and Trish- I can't even remember the last time we were all together.

Because Trish is so obsessed with China, we always have a Chinese themed mini tree for her to enjoy. Apparently they like glitter and owls.

Mums came down from Salem, and as one of my favorite Grandmas it was always a pleasure!

Holidays! Last year I was in Argentina for Christmas eve sans Chex Mix and family feuding. Though my international 24th was one of my favorite Christmas eves to date, this year was a reminder of how fun it is when we round up the gang for sandwiches, wine chugging, and presents!

I thought crafting these awesome stockings would spice up the holidays. They did! Handmade by yours truly, with the help of a sewing machine and about 10 sticks of hot glue.

Twas Bones' first christmas.

We welcomed my bros new(ish) wife to the festivities this year.

She actually survived it. Not everyone does.

Bones somehow bought, wrapped, and delivered this amazing cat clock under the tree for me. Its amazing what one can do with the internet these days.

Holy cow.

Mom got me the Blanket of my Dreams from Pendelton- personalized and all!

My mom recieved the hottest gift of 2007- A Snuggie! This one extra awesome because it was seafoam color...

It was an extra special treat to spend time with my bro, since these days the Marines has been taking up most of his time (haven't seen him in almost 2 years!). He still has his stache-tat.

Like usual, my mom filmed everything.

Uncle Eric got a whole lot of individually wrapped bullets.

Nick was grumpy about all this 'family time' but this time he embraced it.

Grandma chugged a bottle of wine.

And Grandpa got some condoms.

....weird.

We clean up pretty good.

To celebrate the winter holidays, I went back to Sin City for a weekend to visit Dad and Carey! Denny thought it would be a good idea to enter us into a LAS VEGAS TEXAS HOLD 'EM POKER TOURNAMENT. Now, this could sound like a good idea, but it actually being a good idea was still to be determined as we headed to the Red Rock Casino with shaky hands and a looming uncertainty of epic failure.

But believe it or not, it was pretty damn fun.

T-bone and Denny fortunately got to sit next to each other for the first 3 hours. I was all alone on the other side of the room, making friends and enemies with my complete disregard for poker courtesy and rules... and also somehow making all the money...

Here's me and Trish after playing for over an hour. If you can't tell, I have the most chips at the table. Seriously.

Trish and I brought a certain youthfulness to the table.

Trish, Denny, and I all made it into the 4th hour of play, making it to the two final tables. We then all got kind of bored and decided to dip out before things got too bloody. We were getting hungry, and were itching to play some Blackjack.

After earning the title of 'Player that Goes All In More than Anyone Else in the History of Poker' The dealer awarded me this amazing plastic card. Hazzah!

Arizona Spaventure!!

Every year, my stepmom plans a trip for me, her, and my sister T-bone to spend some quality time together. All of our schedules are hectic (Trish tends to end up in China most the time, and it seems like I can only track Carey down these days via facebook), so these annual trips are a way to bring us back together at least for a few days! Last year we ventured to Bali and Taiwan, an AMAZING adventure that left us with great memories and horrible 'bathroom problems.'

This year, Carey decided to take the low road and do something a bit closer to home, with promise of dependable food and spa services. That's why last week we found ourselves going to a fancy-shmancy resort outside of Tuscon, AZ.

Needless to say, this place was awesome! From the delicious (and healthy!) food to the hilarious aerobics class to the heavenly daily massages, I'll be honest and say I've never felt to spoiled...

We did arts and crafts! My art degree finally paying off post-grad by impressing the other old ladies at the resort.

Each morning we rose with the sun, and after a delicious breakfast explored the area around the resort.

The last day, the 3 of us did a challenge course called 'Quantum Leap.' It consisted of climbing up a 30 foot pole via ladder and staples and onto a 12x12 inch rickety old disc. Sounds easy, right?

Here I am, fearlessly ready to go first.

Here I am almost to the top, realizing how unstable and scary it actually is to be up there. Hence, 'challenge' course.

Finally made it!

It took no time for T-bone to get to the top, finishing her trip to the top with some fancy yoga poses.

It took Carey about 3 seconds to get up there. Woww.

I never believe it, but [we all] made it!

We left happy, relaxed, and energized. I even saw 2 baby bobcats playing, which was awesome... A great week away!

Oh yeah, and did I mention we ordered 4 desserts every night? That part was great too.

Back in my 'college day' we reserved every Tuesday night of summer to play a winner-takes-all Poker game, and when the rain started coming down this November we decided to reinstall the activity.

The pot was HUGE! Over $29 to the winner!

So our little project at Galvanic Design is turning into a big project, and it's become apparent it's time to start 'movin up'. So this friday the Shwood Staff took a trip to visit the new shop! We'll be moving in next week, hooray!

AWESOME 40 HALLOWS EVE!

You have probably gathered that halloween is my alltime favorite holiday.This year was no exception.

Somehow we ended up being a total woodland crew-- costumes ranged from Mother Earth and Pan to the Mythical Jackalope.

We also had an Edward Scissorhands:
We started the night in Lake Oswego at my friend Eric's mansion. He somehow got hooked up with a room in this gigantic house that floats ON the lake and is amazing. They had pumpkin seeds and Jungle juice, so you know it was good.
We headed back to town to catch the second half of the Starf'r concert at the Wonder Ballroom, which was, as predicted, AWESOME. I will say, however, if you plan on going to a concert on halloween you should second guess the face-paint. By the end of the show all of our costumes were half destroyed and I looked more like a hobo than a woodland raccoon. Luckily, we packed extra face paint and I even had a back up set of raccoon ears.
After the show we tried to catch the bus to a party on Burnside, but I guess none of us took into consideration how hard it is to get a group of 10+ people to a destination (the bus stop) at a specific time. We watched it drive by and waved. Then, out of the blue comes WIZARD, the Savior of Walking 3 Miles in your Costume on Halloween:
Wizard picked us up at a gas station and tooks us to where our hearts desired most, LOGANS HOUSE!
It was late by the time we showed up to Logans porch, but the halloween festivities were still rocking full force.
Grace was a Drunk Pumpkin for halloween. She stayed in character all night.

We danced our tails off.

They had an awkwardly low disco ball that Edward Caleb Hands couldn't understand.

They had grape flavored Everclear, which someone explained to me as 'the best worst idea.' then I walk in on this...awesome.

As the clock struck 4 and I thought the night couldnt get any better, along comes a Somber Sunflower we all know as Cloud. No one knows how he got there or how he knew where we were, but...I was speechless..

It was just awesome.

Awesome 35-39: Getting Lazy abt Posting but Still Getting Awesome

Alright, so I know this is just totally the anti-awesome, but the final week of Awesome was so busy and so Awesome I didn't spend a lot of time taking pictures. Jess and Lesley are probably shaking their heads, but hey, you guys know I'm awesome anyway... I dont need a blog to prove it. Anyway, here is a compilation of the awesome last week I had:

I finally have a 'real business'.. Think-Make LLC. You can even look it up online, it's registered and totally legit. Just one of those steps that feels so AWESOME to make.

After figuring out how to thread the bobbin, change the thread, and troubleshoot all the weird shit that happens with sewing machines, I created what will go down in [my] history as The Best Halloween Costume Ever. I've been waiting for years for a boy to allow me to craft him a sunflower costume. I dont know what it is, but it's just so hilarious to me. My awesome friend Cloud was so down, and this is how it turned out:

Along with making his costume, a few days before halloween we had 10 people crammed into our living room working on last minute halloween 'stumes. There was hot glue and felt scraps so deep you couldnt even see the floor.
I kept out my sewing machine and crafted a home-made laptop case out of fleece and corduroy. It's just, soooo dope. I'm planning on mastering the art and making 8000 more and selling them like hotcakes.

Colgie dropped in for a visit one night! He's been out in the wilderness for quite some time and we havent had a good 'catchin up' since I can remember. He and Emma came up for a night with some of their friends and we had epic rainventures. Awesome.

Work has been going SO GREAT. Have been wrapping up a bunch of projects that have been really fun to work on:

Stuff at Galvanic is going so unbelievably well we are all pretty much flabbergasted [awesome and underused word] by how successful our ventures are becoming.

Awesome 34: Farewell Darcy!

Y'all know my BFF Deedle? We've known each other since we were wee-ones (Soul Mates since 7th Grade) when we collectively decided to rebel against all that was French 1 with Mm. Wenzel. We disrupted this class so much with our relentless giggling/Olsen Twin references we were not allowed in a single class together since.

After 3 years of middle school, we parted ways for deeper water. But somehow in the vast separation we kept our friendship strong, thriving in the rare chances we did get to see each other. Once we realized our friendship could withstand the trials of distance, we tested and continue to test it constantly. After an awesome post-high school summer, Darcy flew off to Austrailia and I to Colorado. Our friendship dangled between shotty Rockie-Mountain [lack of] cell service and an awkward old Telephone booth from down under, but alas, we prevailed. She lived in France, and upon her arrival home I went off on my Great Samoan Adventure. She moved back to Eugene after I graduated but I ended up somewhere in the Southern Hemisphere. At the beginning of this summer Darcy and I were finally in the same place at the same time, and it was awesome.

But, to keep with tradition, now that i've settled down (persay) in Oregon, she hopped in her ol' maroon car with all her stuff and moved to Truckee. Though it's far, it's the closest we've been in a long time (plus, the perks of having a friend in Tahoe is, well, awesome) and will probably be going to visit her more than she would like. So Day 34 was our last afternoon together before she hit the road.

I had like 800 awesome pictures from the adventures we had, but they are on Alyssas camera and I don't have them :(

After Darcy left, I took Alyssa to roam the streets before heading back to Colorado to 'graduate' or whatever. We hit voodoo doughnuts, and Awebs loved it to pieces.

Awesome 33: ZOMGbies

Our Saturday morning was spent like most Saturday mornings at MFP (My Fathers Place), a class bar/diner on the east side, drinking stale coffee and making fun of Adam.

As the afternoon wore on, we saw an alarming amount of Zombies walking around my apartment. While Adam was filling up his bathtub, we headed downstairs and followed the undead all the way down to Pioneer Square. I was heartbroken, as Zombie Walks are one of my favorite past times and I was entirely out of the loop. See below:

Awesome 32: Alyssa Weber in Da House

Have you ever met Alyssa? If no, bummer, because, well, she's one of the most amazing/awesome people in the whole entire world. She grew up in the 'hood' of South Carolina, knows the lyrics to every rap song ever, and has never eaten a pear.

Awebs and I met each other my Sophomore year of college and became immediate life-partners. She is the bacon to my maple, the method man to my redman, the drake to my raise. Here are some photos of us as our relationship blossomed to total awesome:

Jessie and I took a MAX adventure to the Airport to find out lover, just in from Boulder. Alyssa is still in college, so her weekend trip had to be jam-packed with awesome Portland happenings.

We invited the gang over for an engaging evening of dinner/Apples to Apples, a game us Portlanders love to play.

Reigning Champ, Caneleb almost took another win, but I swooped in with just the right strategy to claim the victory.

We took Awebs to Ground Kontrol in normal Portlandia fashion.

Lacey and Awebs bonded over the awesome but very out-of-character hip hop dance jamz at GK.

Tim leapt out of his shell and took the floor for an ultimate throwdown.

We even found Daley!

Tube was off the hook, and we danced our faces out of this world...

We then decided to take Alyssa all the way to Montage, a million mile walk that is so TOTALLY worth it.

Montage take-out artist knew exactly what I loved, and wrapped up my leftovers accordingly. Such a good way to end the night.

Awesome 31: Teevee

Ok, watching tv is pretty boring, and seems like a big ol' waste of time-- that is, unless you don't have a tv. Then it's fn awesome, and you crave that once-in-a-while sit down with the tube. Especially if it's with 10 of your closest Portland friends. So for the past few weeks, we've been gathering at Taylor's house for a thursday night TV watching extravaganza. Our lineup:

Day 28 is an extension of a past awesome-- another night of crafting with Jbomb (who now had a blog>> lookie!) in the quest of another year of awesome costumes. Tonight: Tiedye!!

Jessie Tiedyed with blood (I think) but her fox costume looked more like an easter egg after a not-reading-the-directions-right incident.

As a seasoned tie-dyer (remember folks, I grew up in Eugene) mine turned out pretty dang cool. I want to wear it before 'Ween but that would just ruin all the fun...

One of my favorite things about Jessies house is Baby Auto, the great and adorable weasel. We bonded.

Another day of working my face off. I look at the clock at 9:30 and start worrying that I've stared at my computer for too long and I dont even have anything really awesome to show for it. Thats when I check out a text from Taylor, confirming the truth of the text I got from Jon earlier that day claiming it was his birthday. Lie or not, I decide to give in and hit the Portland nightlife with new friends and old. It ended in a blur and way too many charges to my credit card... awesome. Un-awesome was that my camera ran out of batteries about 15 minutes in. Sigh....

Day 28: Still Awesome

Hey gang....bet you thought I stopped being awesome. Well, believe it or not, I'm still kicking and kicking extra awesomely but also very swamped with work. Alas, I have a few minutes to play catch up of epic awesomes.

Due to some privacy issues, I'm not allowed to post an awesome project I've been working on quite yet... but I can say that the product involved is blowing up HUGE. It's been featured on my homepage/favorite design site: notcot.com, tweeted about by hundreds, and been on too many awesome style/fashion/design/rad blogs to count. It's so exciting being a part of something the world is just eating up. So even though it's work, i will say that today's awesome is work-related but so totally awesome it's taking the world by storm. If you can figure out what I'm talking about, yeah, it's those.

In other awesomenews, my iPodphone was sent back to me by a nice lady from Castle Rock, CO. Thanks, lady!!! You are so amazingly awesome for returning it and not selling my phone to Russia.

Also awesome but work-related, I've been messing around with Wordpress as a CMS platform for the 2010 Campus Rail Jam Tour website... even though this much code-medling makes my brain melt, it's exciting to see it actually start looking like I designed it to look:

Awesome 25-27: Doin' Florence

Florence, OR is a special coastal town I grew up going to. My family used to have a junky old trailer (dubbed ‘the Brady Bunch Cabin’ because of it’s 70’s décor) in the middle of a sandy swamp that we’d frequent—catching hermit crabs, flying kites, enjoying the overcast mornings with hot chocolate, playing cards and, in the peak of summer, daring each other to go in the freezing cold waves.

It was such an integral part of my childhood it seemed necessary to bring my Colorado Crew-turned Oregon Gang to the beach. My grandparents traded in the Brady Bunch Cabin about a decade ago for a bright house surrounded by a Golf Course and quicksand, which they kindly let us use for the weekend.

Darcy and Jake are moving to Tahoe soon, so this weekend also served as a ‘bon voyage’ trip for them. It was a great way to say goodbye!

We began our time in florence by having the most smoothly-executed group trip to the grocery store. It ws the exact opposite of the old Boulder Freeride Jackson Hole 3 hours shopping sprees that ended in Bagel Bites and PBR.

Caleb had never played Blackjack before, so we busted out a hilariously gigantic novelty deck of cards and showed him the ropes before going to....

THREE RIVERS CASINO!!!!

Me and Caleb gave a little money back to the community, while Tay quadrupled his cash (for once, he won!) and bought everyone crab!

None of us had ever had a proper crab bake, but when in Florence.... We googled some recipes and in an amazing group effort made the most delicious crab feast.

This one was 50% off at the crab store. I was worried.

A huge success!

Another fundamental part of going to Florence is lots of game playing. Boggle, poker, homemade apples to apples, drawing contests, and power hour were all included in our nighttime activities.

While I was kicking everyone's butts at Boggle, Jacob showed off his newfound braiding skills on Darcy.

We went thrifting! The thrift stores in Oldtown Florence are untouched by the hipster and vintage collectors in cities like Portland.

Jessie and Dball both found amzing shoe-deals. Awesome.

Like every visit to Florence, we went to the best toystore in the world.

We went to the Heceta Head Lighthouse. I made everyone take the tour.

We event went to the beach for a few seconds!

We had such an awesome time, in case this picture doesn't prove it.

Awesome 24:GRIZZZZZ BEAR

Thanks to facebook and online ticket sales, it took me about 4 minutes to decide I'd go to a last minute concert with the lovely Grace and Jbomb. Grizzly Bear is one of my favorite going-to-sleep bands and I'd heart they put on a great show, so I forked the money ($7 service charge-- F you, Ticketmaster!!) over to go to see them at the Crystal Ballroom. We were literally the last people to arrive so had the shittiest standing position, but because we are small and lawless, we made it about 20 rows from the front of the stage.

Griz bear's stage decor was perfect-- mason jars filled with lights, so simple and awesome and perfect for grizbear music.

I always imagined Grace to carry wonderful things in her gigantic purse. This is one of those things she chose to show me mid-show.

Adams new thing where he makes stupid faces all the time. I dont really get it, but I dont really get a lot about the things Adam does.

There's something really rewarding about sticking both your hands in a big bowl of pumpkin guts...

...especially when you take out all the delicious seeds and cook them, as I was raised to do.

Adumb landed on carving his own face into his pumpkin. If you know adam, this is pretty spot on!

After much consideration, I went post-modern with my pumpkin design.

We did it!

We wound down the night eating toasted pumpkin seeds and listening to Adam read parts of scary stories by candle light till we got fed up with his inability to finish one and everyone went home.

Awesome 22: Another Craft-Awesome Afternoon

You know what they say, when it rains, ~~it pours~~ you get a lot of business, and right now, I couldn't be happier how many friends are referring friends who refer friends to me for my design services!

As stoked as I am about the wave of design jobs tsunami-ing my October, it leave much less time for freelance awesome. But, as Lesley and Jess once showed me, one must persevere the quest for Awesome Every Day.

Awesome Day 22, after a good 10 hours of work, I crafted my face off and made an awesome wallet out of oil cloth (this is the stuff tacky plastic picnic tables are made out of)-- It turned out pretty great, and I cant wait to make more! Let me know if you want one!

Awesome 21: Pups!!

So it was Monday, and I had a lot of catching up to do (yes, I am self-employed, but taking 3 days off of work to go visit my 'golden college years' really does cause things to pile up)-- so from sun up to sun down I was swamped with work, which is no fun, considering I'm supposed to do something awesome!

Luckily, Adam came to my rescue with an invite-only trip to his bosses house, which he has been taking care of for the last few days. And I must say, i was in for quite a treat: PUPPIES!!!

Needless to say, Bubba and Lilly are my new BFFs

After getting sufficiently licked down, adam made me the most awesome/octoberlicious lunch of all time: Grilled che and tomato soup for dippin'. Did I mention the bacon? Oh yeah, there was bacon.

The best part of the night was when I 'Buffaloed'* the birthday boy on a full pitcher of beer.

(*Buffalo is a game us Coloradans play-- if you ever 'buy in' to Buffalo, you are required to only drink beverages out of your non dominant hand. If another player catches you drinking with your dominant hand, they can exclaim 'Buffalo!' and you must immediately chug whatever drink you are holding. The most epic Buffalo was with our friend Chris Garcin, on an entire Nalgene full of Jack and Coke. This one was pretty awesome too.)

Awesome 18: Boulder Freeride's Annual Camping Explosion of Awesome

One thing I've looked forward to every year in the CO autumn is the annual Boulder Freeride camping trip. Years past have brought campfire leaping, hot-springs finding, and a general 100 person party in the middle of Colorado's great wilderness.

This year, there was snow.

The camp was full of my favorite friends and my favorite pups! Jiblet was shivering alll night.

And Garlic was being nuts as ever.

As the oldest people there, me and jess taught the youngins how to throw down.

And Becca showed off her superhuman strength!

I came completely unprepared. Flip flops, jeans, and a jacket borrowed from Sam-- no sleeping bag, gloves, flashlight, or common sense. I opted to sleep in Amandas car-- each hour, on the hour I had to start it in order to stay warm enough to retain my sanity. At 7 am it was 15 degrees.
Did I mention I slept in a garbage bag?

At least in the morning, as we made our way back to Boulder, the Colorado landscape shone just like I love it to shine. Awesome.

Awesome 17: Aspen Extreme

Ahhh, Boulder in the fall. It reminds me of cozy nights, crisp walks, and to be honest, enough partying to keep you hung over for weeks. In Boulder it is the time when students realize the joys of Colorado's pre-season snowboard activities, unmatched anywhere else in the country. But submerging yourself in ski movie premieres and hat-crocheting lessons cannot prepare you for that first snow....

I was just lucky enough to be there for the event. If only I had words to describe....

I stupidly forgot to pack warm clothes/shoes/snow gear-- you know, the practical things to bring to Boulder in mid-October. So I didn't get to take a run on that white ribbon of opening weekend awesome at Abasin, but did the next best thing: a day trip to Aspen with the puppy love of my life, Django, and his sidekick Mr. Clam Campbell. I'm sure this just goes without saying, but it was awesommmeeeeee.

Awesome 16: Take Your Newbie to Work Day

I met Lesley my freshman year of college. We immediately bonded over both our love of snowboarding and the fact that we each spent our first year of school in the exact same dorm room, a one 179 Libby Hall. I knew from the minute I met her she was going to be one of the most radical people I'd ever know.

  A year later I tried out to be on the Board of Directors for the CU ski and snowboard club and after getting elected Lesley swooped me up as her personal ‘newbie.’ Each ‘oldbie’ gets a newb to act as mentor for through the tasks and trials of running one of the largest collegiate clubs in the nation. I’ve seen many newbie/oldbie pairings, and in all my years I’ve come to the conclusion that me and Lesley were the most perfect match in the history of the ski and snowboard club. Not only did she teach me the ways of the snow industry, but she gave me the confidence to sing karaoke at bars, to shotgun beers in front of a crowd, encouraged lots of prank calls and practical jokes, and once even made me tape a dress to my boobs so I didn’t have to wear a bra. To this day, LB is still one of my best friends, and I’m always learning new and interesting ways to be awesome from her. She’s my mentor. It’s just what she does.

So, of course, when I got an awesome surprise from United Frequent Flyer Miles saying I get a free flight somewhere in the US expiring in 3 weeks, I immediately booked a ticket to Denver to see LB and the rest of the CO gang.

Did I mention Lesley has the best job ever? It’s awesome, so Day 16 was Take your Newbie to Work Day. And it just so happened I landed in Denver the day of the B movie premiere! Hooray!

Day 14: Feel Good Movie of the Year

Anyone can see a movie right? So it’s not that awesome. It’s like $8.00 for roughly 2 hours of sitting and staring at a screen, possibly consuming over-buttered (though excellently delicious) and expensive popcorn, and most likely contracting something from the filthy seat you’re sittin’ on. Not awesome.

Until you see Zombieland.

I was planning on doing something awesome along with going to see a movie (though me seeing a movie is actually a very rare situation—I usually wait to download them off the ‘net’) but after the opening credits I knew I needed no awesomecompensation. The opening credits probably would have even sufficed.

Zombieland stars Michael Cera[s body double, Jesse Eisenberg] and the guy who played Ken in Wild Things, along with the actor from Surfer Dude and the sober chick from Superbad (the movie that actually starred Michael Cera). It starts off with some of the most awesome opening credits of this generation, and follows with an hour and half of humor, hysterics, and innovative zombie destruction shot immaculately and peppered with informative zombie attack rules and a heartwarming story about family and love and the perseverance of and American Redneck. A great addition to the Month o 'ween activities!

It was just, so awesome. If you haven’t seen it already, stop what you’re doing (reading this blog) and go now!!!!!!!!!!

Do y'all remember fall? I barely do. The autumn months in Colorado were mild and sunny, in Fiji they were non-existent... so it's been about 5 years since I got a crisp, damp afternoon that smelled like smoke and sharpened pencils. With October peeking out, I'm reminded that this week is the beginning of Month O'ween-- I love Halloween so much that I try and include it in my every-day October doings. You'll probably notice that in the following entries.

Today was the day that my friends and I grabbed fall by the horns and took advantage of everything the season's change has to offer. Needless to say, it was awesome.

This is my first football season in Oregon since I was a senior in high school, and celebrated! My dad and stepmom offered me and Taylor up some of their extra tickets to the Cougar/Duck game this weekend. 3 hours of tailgating, seeing old friends, and BBqin with the finest, this day was totally awesome.
We drove down to Eugene in a herd of duckmobiles. This one was by far the most awesome (note: flags, stickers, trailer hitch cover, noosed- cougar, and novelty license plate 'Duk Guy')

So, one thing that's tough about doing 40 Days (or one day, for that matter) of Awesome is that sometimes you can plan to have the most awesome night and things end up going completely un-awesome. My friends and I trekked across the Burnside bridge to the Doug Fir to see pop sensation Miike Snow. What was supposed to be a completely awesome night turned into something so unawesome I wont even specify on this here blog (this is for awesome, and nothing less!)-- my neighbor Adam, seeing that my night ended so very opposite of what I'd imagined, decided to help me create an entry for my Awesomeblog via his iPodvideophone.

Ok ok, so I know I jokingly told a few of you that if my day lacked awesomeness, I would just make some animated gifs and call it a day.

Today is not that day.

Because, in fact, I actually did something awesome-- but the awesome just so happened to result in an awesome animated gif!

My mom gave me this funky old camera that supposedly takes '3d photos':

I found out via google that this camera, the Nishika n8000, takes 4 shots for every 2 frames of film and using magic you can make them awesomely 3d. I found out via trial and error that even more than being awesomely 3d, if you mesh the entire roll of film together you get a dope animated gif!! So here is my day, in Giflandia.

You probably already know that one of my favorite past times is crafting, but even more than crafting, I love crafting with a purpose. Hence, my favorite holiday obviously is the one with the most purposeful crafts: Halloweeeeen Costumes. Still in eugene, I got to have a delicious breakfast with Dad + Carebear, who just returned from an Italian adventure. Then Taylor and I met up with Darcy, Jake, & Katherine to do an awesome local favorite activity: Hiking the Butte! It was extra awesome, because autumn is creeping up on us but the sun is still shining, a rare and beautiful eye of the seasonal storm. The air was smooth and the company was awesome.

We attempted to make grass whistles. Don't wanna brag but mine was the most awesome.

Sometimes the most awesome thing to do is to go home. This weekend, I did just that. Taylor and I hopped in the car and drove 2 hours south to the comfy south hills of Eugene. Bones came too! She did not think that riding in the car was awesome. Look how weird she is:

Like a usual but completely awesome visit to Eugene, we did these things: eat awesome sushi with mommy, watch way too much HBO, and nap.

Then I had a staring contest with Bonez. I won.

Then I had another, and I won again.

Then she attacked Taylor and it was very hilarious to me.

Then, to cap off the evening we met up with the most awesome besties in the world, Darcy n Jake. We lof them.

The few people that hang out in my apartment know that Scabs is also an aspiring musician, wittily naming himself Club of Friends. I've been trying to help Fluffs come up with an awesome cover for his first cd, 'One Two Tango'. Once we submerged ourselves in some much needed coffee on the U of Washington campus, the rest of day 4 awesomezomg was spent attempting to take promotional/press photos for when Club of Friends gets ‘discovered.’ Here are some of the goodies:

Day 3: Seattle Awesome

As the day was rounding its zenith and nothing especially awesome was in the works for the rest of the day, I decided the cure would be the purchase a last minute train ticket up to Seattle. Luckily I live just blocks from Union Station, so I threw my camera in a bag and literally ran onto the almost-departed train. I spent the next 3 hours thinking about how awesome it was 1. Having made the train, 2. Being ON a train, for the first time alone and for the first time in America, and 3. Getting to see my long lost friend Josh on his turf (if y’all don’t remember Josh, he was my partner in crime along with Sam whilst exploring the greater parts of Capfed, Buenos Aires).

I stumble out of the train and encounter a series of buses and strangers, finally finding Fluffs (pseudonym for Josh) poetically on an overpass in the middle of ‘downtown’ ‘Seattle.’ We do all the things we used to do: drink coffee, say crude and inappropriate things to/about each other, make awkward small talk, take public transportation, and make jokes that only we’d understand/not be offended by.

Get on a bus to Josh’s friends house (believe it or not) to drop our stuff before we hit ‘Honey Bag’ or ‘Honey Hole’ for what Josh referred to as ‘sooo awesome’ for some eats. Right as our food was coming, Josh made sure I didn’t have any appetite left by picking a scab on his arm.

We hit all the awesome bars in Scab’s old stomping grounds, visited the local sex toy shop (awesome!), and waited for a bus home at the crack of 3 am. We took about 8000 asweome pics on my camera that I was so excited about, only to discover on arrival back in PDX that I didn’t have the cord for my lil camera anymore. [[note to self: get a new cord tomorrow or 40 Days of Awesome will turn into 40 Days of What May or May Not Have Been Awesome, but Either Way There is No Proof]]

Anyway, we spent the night on a futon just small enough for Wet Chest Scabs’ (pseudonym for Josh) head and feet to hang off top and bottom. Awesome.

It's before 10 and I'm already being awesome. After a canceled trip to C-attle, I now had to undertake the arduous task of delivering my car to it's weekday home-- aprox. 20 blocks away from my apartment. It's chilly and fall and I jammed to this on my ipod. Reminded me of Clarence and kava.

Anyway, after trying out a new coffee shop, running in with my dear friend Cloud on the elevator, and sitting down at my 'desk' for a day of work, I realized i needed more coffee and needed to drink it out of this mug, recieved as a gift from one of my BFFs Jessie Matanky on her recent trip to Moab:

I'm already finding that being awesome in the middle of the week is a bit harder to do than weekends, but I did it! Following a morning meeting with Tin House Books, I headed to the Galvanic office (I frequent this place about 20 hours a week) to work on some junk for the 2010 Campus Rail Jam Tour. After slaving away for hours, I was relieved of my duties for some fun... FUN WITH A LASER!!

We have a laser at the office to cut sunglasses, a side project we've been working on called Shwood Sunglasses, but every once in a while, if you’re really good, you’re allowed to use it for personal awesomeness.

The first part was actually work. We made these prototypes for the Shwood packaging. I <3 woodgrain.

And here is my attempt at handling a laser on a personal level: Moleskin Journal of Awesomeness. I imagine writing awesome things in it so I don’t forget anything awesome throughout my 40 days of awesome.

I have two awesome friends, Jess Werner and Lesley Betts, who a few months ago discovered ‘blogging.’ With this discovery came their unending quest to blog about any and everything awesome.

Then, one day, it happened: they started 30 Days of Awesome. Leaping from an occasional blog post to a daily publicawesome, Lesley and Jess took their loyal followers on a month long tour-de-awesome, making sure that each and every day they executed and blogged about how awesome their lives were. At first I was skeptical that people with full-time jobs (though they work for Burton and Snowboarder mag) could have awesome EVERY DAY for a WHOLE MONTH, they pulled it off. I was lucky enough to cap off the awesomeness in Las Vegas with them this summer, and was wholly inspired to follow the grail of awesome.
And here we commence my 30 days of awesome. I think this will be a good way to: 1. Be more awesome and 2. Blog, so people quit complainin' that i never blog. 3. I like photography, and I always forget about it. So I guess I'll take more photos this way (thanks for re-inspiring me, keith m.)

I just informed Lesley of my decision to be awesome and she warns ‘just so you know. 30 days is tiring.’ Thanks, mentor and dear friend, for the encouragement and the challenge. Just because you said that, I’m doing 40 days of awesome.

It's come from a number of sources that my blogging has been sub-par these last few months. I guess being back in America I’ve been caught up in the everyday, always attention grabbing, ceaseless mind stimulation and I've lost my ample blogging time. Thanks to all those loyal followers that still check me out every once in a while; hopefully this recap will explain my absence and rectify my drought of discourse.

At the beginning of May, after almost 3 month on the road with the Campus Rail Jam Tour, I moved to the heart of Chinatown, Portland. In a happenstance facebook crossing, I joined with my long lost friend Lacey, I signed the lease a dope apartment that sits quietly above a soup kitchen, metal concert venue, and an unending parade of drunks, druggies and drag queens, blended agreeably with the soothing sounds of public transportation and shouting party girls. Though we don’t have air conditioning, we have a spectacular view of the city and the sunsets. We are a stone’s throw away from a few of Portland’s finest landmarks:

Ground Kontrol- A fusion of bar+arcade: BARCADE. Lacey and I frequent this place approx. 8 days a week. We are working to become the best mortal kombat duelers of all time. I’m also undefeated at Tetris.

Voodoo Doughnuts- Open any day or night with a line pouring onto the busy Portland street, this place might be considered ‘the tits.’ The only mix of two great things more awesome than a barcade (see above) is my only weakness: Maple Bacon Bars. I could eat like, 2 of these, before considering puking. It may sound disgusting, but believe me folks, don’t knock it till you try it (and if you hate it, I’ll eat your leftovers).
As you can see, these two places alone could keep one not-blogging for decades. Especially when they are so close.

I’ve also been working a lot, and will give each of my jobs a respective blog post. Look forward to more info on the life and times of kait!

So I know this is a little late, but being on the road and working hard, I've been a little behind. For Easter weekend, I escaped the bus and hopped a flight to Vegas to spend the holiday with Dad and Carey. The sun was shining and the Blackjack tables were calling.

After a day of relaxing and winning $300 from a single $25 chip (thanks Red Rock Casino!), D & C surprised me on Easter Eve with tickets to the Criss Angel Cirque du Soleil. If you know me, you know I love magic as much as I love snowboarding, popcorn, and possibly my cat Jyme, so it's obvious i would be excited about seeing this fast-paced, goth inspired celebrity magic show. I ignored the disapproving quips of my bus-mates and skipped over the section of the wikipedia article that reads "The show opened to equally harsh reviews, citing a lack of the magic Angel is known for as well as a confusing and uninteresting theme." Oops. Maybe if i had been more willing to BELIEVE I'd have those 1.5 hours of my life back.

Since it was Rabbit themed, it seemed extra poignant.

After the show we all agreed that it was the biggest waste of time in the History of Time. I was not excited by his tricks, nor amused by his lack of a 6-pack (aside from the 2 he drank before the 7:00 show). Boo Criss. You are stupid. At least I got to spend some quality MST3K commentary with the fam.

The next day Denny and I did what we love to do best since his move to Vegas last year: Play Tourist!

Went bowling (and scored free socks!)

The score was fun to fun.

We went to Paris!!!

And last but not least, we got our picture taken with a MILLION DOLLARS! Then we won $20 of that Casino's million dollars and spent it on the stupidest movie ever.

This is a post from my CRJT blog with some more personal additions that I thought you guys might want to check out too! We all live together on a 40 foot gutted out greyhound bus (we'll save the tour for a different blog entry) and get to spend every waking hour and sleeping hour together.

PAT- Our resident musician-turned-snowboarder. Loves: trading things, snowboarding shirtless. Job: bus driver/bracelet trader. Calls computuers Google Boxes, which i think is hilarious. Also, iPhones are Superphones, cell phones are Text Phones, etc.

DRAE- The Three Pee: Poops, Pyramids, and Passing out. He's involved in some pyramid scheme that I get to enjoy each and every day! He;s our MC and makes really funny faces when dancing.

LOGAN- Newbie on tour. We'll see how this goes. He gave me the sweetest hat in the world.

KAIT- Can usually be found making the tour look pretty or complaining about how gross the bus is. Everyone gave me crap for including a good picture of myself on this entry.

TAY- He's in charge of things going down. Enjoys high fives and a good whiskey. You guys all know him...silly kentuckan belle.

DOM- Bus driving love kitten. Makes a bomb Bus Fried Rice. He's pretty much got the best attitude in the world.

ERIC- this kid will do anything for floam. Also, he talks dirty to his girlfriend on the bus at night and doesnt realize everyone can hear him.

DAN- don't stare at his mustache too long or he'll start licking it. This is my boss, and it's really hard to take him seriously...

BIG AL- aka Albatros aka alberstons aka al la mode aka root canal aka all alone aka reverend al aka allegra aka weird al yankovich aka alvis aka alvin and the chipmunks aka allegory aka alliteration aka altimeter aka altitude aka alligator aka al in wonderland. Obviously he has a lot of nicknames, but back when I met him in 2004 he was plain old Duff. And that is where he stays. He has a Big Sky Bistro, just like me, which earns him a lot of my respect.

DREW- Needs kitty litter. Last seen with no beard. Drew recently got blackout drunk and peed his bunk (right under me)... proceeded to strip out of all his clothes and throw them on mine. Took him a week to wash them for me.

ADAM- Collector of hearts and precious stones. Like every other Adam in my life, this one is totally awesome.

JON- Whaaaaaaaat. Don't give this one sugar. Or do...? Jon is constantly hitting on women and somehow is very successful. Beware! He Also snowboards with a dumdum in his mouth and consumes about 10 redbulls a day.

RYAN- best hugger on tour. This is another of m bosses. He's strong and sassy- just the way i like them.

BRUKE- If he hasn't already, he might find you on couchsurfing.com.

SHAUN- Goofball who hates me because i took over the CRJT blog. Currently back in PDX not living on the bus.

Josh came up for a visit. Almost won Spocompton (adorable local's name for this terrific town!) 80's trivia and made friends with an ex-meth cooker who was on parole and working at a bar populated only by us. Spokane isn't the best of times, but it certainly has it's flair. Our event goes down tomorrow, and aside from that Pacific Northwest Chill that's enveloped me since our arrival, it should be a pretty good rail jam.

So one thing I loved as a kid was children's books. My mom, an author for published and non published adolescent fiction, got me hooked- and my desire for a simple story with silly characters and other-worldly adventures sparked my interest for the joy of reading.

Though i had to put the stupid cricket logo all over it, it really did turn out ok. So we got a bunch of these printed and now we give a few away ateach event-- at this one, my wonderful friend Jess won one of mine! So, that's pretty sweet n junk.

Though I’m back in the states, I’ve found myself again in a harsh, confusing, and sublime foreign territory. This time, it’s on a 40-foot diesel-fueled, man-filled, dirty, stinky, and hilarious bus traveling around the great American West. Picture an old greyhound bus, seats replaced with prison beds and massive amounts of sweat, beer cans, and testosterone—exactly what I imagined when I hopped on the Campus Rail Jam Tour.

For those of you that don’t know, I’ve been doing lots of freelance graphic design (p.s. need anything designed? I need monies). One of my clients is said Campus Rail Jam Tour—and in lieu of finding a place to settle down, I accepted the invitation to travel along with the tour for their last 2 months on the road—postponing my immanent stability a little bit longer.

So the living situation looks something like this: we each have a bunk on the bus—mine is a Deluxe Top Bunk, complete with old sleeping pad and just inches away from the stinkiest dude on there, my boss, Dan. From my bunk I can see the dining area, hear Taylor snoring, and smell the sweet scent of 14 dudes that haven’t showered in as much as 10 days as it rises to the top of the bus. One option we have at each tour stop is to befriend a local and shmooze them into a spot on their floor, couch, bathtub, etc. We aren’t using these people, but we do have to ask them immediately upon meeting them if they mind if we use their shower. That’s how to get to know someone pretty quick. Every Thursday we have an event, and for those of you outside the snowsports circuit, a “rail jam” is a ski and snowboard competition where contestants slide down rails (much like a handrail of an outdoor staircase) and do spins and sometimes grab their snowboard or skis and often have hilarious wipe outs. Our job is to promote, build, brand, organize, hype, photograph, video, operate, and clean up the whole thing. Each event happens on a college campus, and usually 1,000-2,000 curious kids show up to see what it’s all about. Pretty fun, but a lot of work. On our off days, we make sure our sponsors are happy by making rad videos, editing and posting photos, writing stories, and publishing everything in various outlets online. I have also taken on the duty of Daily Bus Cleaning, because, well, it’s just nasty.

We’ve been in Fort Collins, CO for the past week, and finished our event up yesterday. We were supposed to head up to Spokane, Washington but a huge storm hit just hours after our event and we’re stuck here for another night. Hopefully getting out tomorrow. Luckily, the people here in FoCo have been extra hospitable and I’ve both showered and eaten more in 3 days than I have the entire rest of the month. Hooray!

The stop before this was in Boulder, which was a great time to hang with my old crew. I’m slowly convincing everyone to move to Oregon, because I miss them and love them.

Also, my mom was here! I got to spend a few days with her out in Colorado, and it was magical!

After two long weeks away from my computer, I’ve finally arrived back at our apartment in Buenos Aires. Still in the heat of summer, what better way to relax than with an iced coffee and a good old-fashioned blog entry.

Day 1: Our adventure begins at 3 a.m. Though our flight south isn’t until mid-afternoon, Trish and Paula make sure I have ample time to get ready for the big trip. Call it over-preparedness or call it wine-drunk-and-trying-to-get-me-to-throw-the-key-down-to-them-after-a-night-of-argentine-wine-and-men, half-asleep me found it very helpful! We fly from BsAs to El Calafate, in Southern Argentina in the Patagonia area (attn: it’s not just an outdoor adventure clothing and accessories brand! Who would have thought!). While T & P slept, I appreciated what non-American airlines have to offer; each seat comes with free Alfajor (Argentine’s favorite cookie/chocolate/caramel slice of heaven), free booze, and enough episodes of Latin-American Candid Camera to keep you laughing till landing.

El Calafate is set on the beautiful Lago Argentino, and reminded me of the quaint outdoorsy towns of Montana. After a mouthwatering dinner of cute widdle Patagonian lamby-wamby (obviously I’ve given up my Birkenstocks), we ambled our way through the town- running into a music festival redolent of a Raffi concert before settling down at our hippie-run hostel, iKeuken.

Day 2: Wouldn’t you know it (Trish and Paula already knew it...), there was an enormous glacier right outside of town! We got up at the crack of dawn and headed to the colossal ice cube, the Perito Moreno Glacier. Our trip included lots of free wind and German tourists, a great way to spend the day. It was overcast and drizzly, and this far south the air is pretty chilled. After an extensive photoshoot, T and P went to recovered inside. I stayed outside to take in what might be my only experience with something so impressive (Thanks, Al Gore!). Trying to warm the crowd up in my best british accent, I shouted “Iceberg, dead ahead!” but my Titanic reference went under appreciated. To soon? Or maybe these people’s senses of humor were as frozen as their fingers. I’ll stick with the latter.

Day 3: Up before sunrise, which is EARLY, considering we are at the peak of the southern hemisphere summer and we are about 10 meters away from the south pole [I’m still trying to get a grasp on the metric system] and the days should be at their longest, we hopped a bus to Torres Del Paine national park across the border in Chile. We were guided around the perimeter of the park by 17 year old hottie, who concluded our full-day tour with a hike to the top of a small mountain. Though it was beautiful, the winds were so fierce we struggled to stay standing (at one point this violent wind knocked me straight on my butt into a thorn bush, hurrah!).

As the sun went down (I can only imagine, for the cloud of grey was so thick it was hard to distinguish night and day) we took a ferry to our first campsite of what was to be our 4 day backpacking hike on a trail called the “W.” At this point, we were hopeful and enthusiastic, but cold enough to opt for a room in the refugio at the campsite, equivalent to a hostel, instead of trying to brave the windy mess outside in tent and sleeping bags. We sat by the fire and played cards, hoping that the weather was as unpredictable and fast-changing as we had heard and tomorrow would be clear, sunny, and wonderful.

This would not be the case.

Day 4: The first leg of the “W” leads to Glacier Grey, another of our world’s wonders. It’s a little of 5 miles to get there, and then 5 to return to the campsite we started from. Our plan was to stay at the Refugio another night, then trek on with our stuff to the middle part of the W, spend the night and from there do the final stretch, finishing in about 4 days- covering over 50 miles of good solid Chilean earth.

This would also not be the case.

We made it to Glacier Grey. We started early with a spring in our step- heading into one of the magnificent valleys of Torres Del Paine. There was a slight drizzle, but we had come prepared with state-of-the-art, semi waterproof gear. It was in the first mile that I realized that maybe a shitty pair of reebok running shoes was not the best hiking-footwear choice. From here on out, I would be reminded of this every step of the journey. On mile two a blister was forming on the back of my heel. Mile 3 we had to stop and ring our socks out. Mile 4 was when Paula’s camera stopped working from being waterlogged. Mile 5, where we stumbled drenched and in pain, was when we reached the Glacier. We stared at it for about 3 seconds before retreating to the small Refugio station, where we stayed for almost 2 hours attempting to dry out every article of clothing before starting our return trip.

Putting on my wet socks and shoes on our way out was like sticking my foot in a blender full of ice. Then turning it on.

By mile 7 we were listing off all the things we were excited about to keep our spirits above non-existent. We found it easier to list off all the things on us that were in pain or discomfort, which at least gave us something talk about. Mile 8 we were reconsidering the rest of our hike. Mile 9 was silence, all of us stewing in our own thoughts. Mile 10 and I was ready to take off my damn reeboks and throw them in the lake next to us barely visible by the fog. Mile 11 was a painfully long, step by limping step haul to get back to the refugio in sight. There was no question about whether we would camp or spend another night in the refugio. All the time the rain was pouring down.

Now, Trish, Paula, and I are all well seasoned travelers. We’re from Oregon. We’ve all built our own campfires and backpacked through the woods. But I’ll tell you what: we were stupid. On retrospect, I can’t believe we were planning on hiking this thing. Things that were in our packs: 1 stuffed animal, enough clothes for 2 weeks, a total of 6 books, and my favorite, 1 laptop. A laptop. We were trying to hike 50 miles with a laptop. Not to mention my shoes were about as good to be hiking in as flip flops. Not to mention I hadn’t really done any strenuous exercise since last snowboard season. Not to mention I had a total of one long sleeve shirt. Not to mention the rain wasn’t about to stop. What were we thinking?

Day 5: I wake up and my foot is throbbing. In attempts to avoid a gigantic blister, I hiked approximately 10 miles on the side of my foot. People, you should NEVER do this. You know what else you should never do? Try and hike farther. We woke early to a beautiful sunrise, shining an array of golds and oranges and purples over the mountains we couldn’t even see the day before. Ambitious and excited, we decided we’d try the next leg of the “W.” But, as we had been warned before the weather in Patagonia can change in a heartbeat, so 2 miles from camp, the clouds came in and we were once again in a swimming sea of discomfort and disenchantment. The final straw. We were on the next boat out of there. This was pretty though:

After coming to terms with the fact that we were complete idiots, we landed in Puerto Natales, which, if you’re ever in southern Chile, I suggest you visit. It was like a warm little hideaway where we could forget our past failures (however recent) and drink wine to our hearts content. We ended up at a hostel called Erratic Rock (or as I like to call it, with a wine-induced slur, “erotic rock”), which was heaven on earth. Not only was this place run by a native of EUGENE, OR, full of warmth and hammocks and real coffee and homemade carrot bread, but also THEY HAD A KITTEN. It was perfect.

Day 6: Bus to Punta Arenes, south a few hours. We’d been wearing the same clothes for 4 days and hadn’t showered in as many, and settled into our hostel, La Estancia, which had a grandma’s-house-meets-South-America feel to it. Very cozy. They even did our laundry.

My foot was still throbbing with pain, which I’ve learned is about the last thing you want to have when you’re traveling around. We rented bikes so I could stay off of it, with hopes of learning the ins and outs of this small town. We spent 10 minutes finding the bike path, the next 10 realizing you can see the whole town in 10 minutes. After returning the bikes, we played cards for about 4 hours, me being the ultimate winner (like usual). We then headed to Seno Otway, a lake outside of town that is known for it’s penguins. We got to see the little creatures as they taught their young how to swim; it was no March of the Penguins, but they were pretty darn cute anyway. Instead of Morgan Freeman narrating, we had a Chilean dude who had a handful of pre-memorized English sentences to offer us. Then, as a warming treat before our drive back, we all had a round of sweet, syrupy mango liquor. Not sure what that was about.

Day 7: Foot rest for me. Also beat everyone at cards again. We had an evening flight to Puerto Natales, landing in a hostel reminiscent of a treehouse run by a crew of sweatpants wearing Frenchmen. Trish and Paula turned in early, but because of our lethargic days in Punta Arenes, I wasn’t ready to retire. The Frenchmen adopted me after I wowed them with my favorite French catchphrase, “Tire Mon Doight” and once the hostel had calmed down took me out to their favorite P.N. local hangout El Garage.

Now, I’ve been gone for more than half a year, and in this time have been involved in conversations of languages spanning the globe. Hindi, Filipino, Fijian, Spanish, French, German, Arabic: I’ve been around it so long I sometimes forget what my own language sounds like, but going out with these guys to their local bar was the most confused I’ve ever been. Be it the drinks we kept buying or the mid-sentence changes from French to Spanish to who-know-whatelse, I finally took my leave and started blindly into the faces of my new amigos, smiling and laughing at what I thought would be appropriate times (I get better at this every day).

Day 8: I grabbed an early bus to Bariloche, and after 8 hours of the most magnificent, tree lined drive through the Patagonian Lake District, I found Sam and his gang of travelers (when we parted ways he went up to Santiago and had be exploring Northern Patagonia while we explored the rainy south with some kids from CU). Bariloche, my friends, is the most amazing and breathtaking place I’ve ever been. The exact definition of “picturesque.” It felt good being back with Sam, and he made an extra effort to help me hobble around.

Day 9: Sam and I packed a lunch and while the rest of the crew went hiking, we took it upon ourselves to bike the 25 kilometer loop charmingly called “El Circuito Chico (The Small Circuit)”. It wasn’t small. The ups and downs made our 6-hour bike tour at times daunting, but in the end paid off with the most beautiful view of the area I could have hoped for (not to mention clear blue sky, a slight and necessary wind --we were, by this time, a little overheated). We returned our bikes, wiped off our sweat, and enjoyed a cold Quilmes before heading back to the hostel, where we were sleeping soundly by 10 pm. By far the best day of the trip.

Day 10: Sweater shopping.

Day 11: 20 hour bus ride back to Buenos Aires. Empty bank account and full camera memory card.

In my down time I've been attempting to come up with a name for my freelance design business. I'm looking for a word or two that really reflects on my design style and general work mantra. I've been on about 1000 thesaurus sites, countless online dictionaries, and even a few random word generators. I finally found a word that I loved: Cadenza. In music, a cadenza is an improvised or written-out ornamental passage played or sung by a soloist, usually in a "free" rhythmic style, and often allowing for virtuosic display. How perfect is that? So I type cadenza.com into my web browser and guess what: cadenzadesign.com
